While
this may sound a little repetitive, here are some
of the things that you can do in order to go green
without spending much money.
1.
Carbon Fluorescent Light bulbs use a fourth of the
energy of their incandescent counterparts, while
providing the same amount of light, so why not use
them. Or if you really want to save energy try LED
(light emitting diode) bulbs, which only use a few
watts however these bulbs cost about $60.
2.
Reusable shopping bags are about the easiest thing
to do, you can buy them for about a dollar at any
store and you use them every time you shop. I actually
got the ones I have for free just so the company
could get the advertising that was on the side.
3.
Co-ops provide an alternative to processed food,
coated in fertilizers and pesticides. The food is
great and over the coarse of the year, it is cost
competitive with buying the food from the store.
4.
A
programmable thermostat is an ingenious device that
can save thousands of dollars based on such a simple
principle. You are able to program your house thermostat
so that it shuts off when you are at work or asleep,
which is just a waste of your money.
5.
Organize your trips in order to make fewer of them
and drive less. This can save you money at the pump
and also save you time in your day.
6.
Traveling in a plane is responsible for the most
carbon dioxide per capita an alternative to this
is taking the Amtrak. While this is much slower,
it is also less of a hassle since you can just get
on, walk around, and relax instead of being cramped
on a plane.
7.
Turn the heat down on your hot water tank and wash
your clothes in cold water. This will save hundreds
of dollars and not change your lifestyle in the
least.
8.
The most important thing that can be done is that
you pass the message along to other people, also
write a letter to the government including country,
state, and federal leaders asking for changes in
policy encouraging better environmental management.
9.
Power
strips are a great way to reduce vampire power consumption.
They save energy by cutting the consumption of electronic
devices while they are off. A television system’s
energy consumption only decreases by about 75 to
90 percent when it is turned off. By flipping off
the power strip, the amount of power is greatly
reduced.
10.
Buying foods in bulk is another way to reduce pollution
and it is also much cheaper. Food packaging requires
a lot of energy to use, and also you get less food
for your money. |
